Performance Problems

Home users often complain that their PC is slow. Occasionally this is simply because they have an old PC that they are comparing with other newer ones. But most of the time they mean that it has become slower. This is very common. I normally perform a short assessment to give clients an estimate of the work involved.

There are three main reasons for worsening performance:

  • Infection with a virus or spyware. Reasonably common.

  • Installation of security software on a PC with inadequate hardware. Quite common.

  • Installation of software with running background programs that the user does not need. Very common.
